Good afternoon to you all.

I'm hoping I could lean on my fellow MD owners. I have an MB A180D 2018 and I had to get lifted off the motorway yesterday. This vehicle is clearly misfiring and I put my OBD2 reader on it and it indicates the fault is as follows:- P0204 Injector Circuit / Open Cylinder 4, has anyone experienced this fault? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. 15K on the clock.

Further to my enquire today, I carried out a resistance check on each one of the injectors, three were the same and one never gave a reading. Normally on engines that I have worked on cylinder number one is at the timing belt end, however with this being a Renault engine, could cylinder number 1 be at the gearbox end? I ask because the injector showing no reading was at the timing belt end and the OBD reader indicated the cylinder number was at fault. Clarification would be very much appreciated.

Correct. Some (not all) Renault engines are numbered wrong way round. No idea why.

If using OBDIi/EOBD mode the descriptions should be using the convention as defined in the ISO standard which is 1 at the front.
If you're using the manufacturer specific diag services (even if using something like an icarsoft) they don't have to use the standard convention and could well be using the french notation.

Best way of verifying is to unplug the injector at front end and see if that then reports cyl 4.
