Nice showing of an 70/early 80's 230 e-class on Top Gear being driven accross botswana including a lot of off road and the salt / mud flats.
Nice to see how well the old merc handled it all .
If you missed it you can watch it again by downloading it from BBC i player but you have to instal the software and watch it within 7 days of showing.
Great entertainment-- reccomended watch

I enjoyed that. It was one of their better "challenges". Whilst the Merc did come out OK, the Opel and the Beetle back-up car faired even better. Only JC's choice of car really played up.
Worth watching.

Having been to Africa and having a spare half a litre tin of engine oil desperately asked for by loads of villagers, the only part of the programme I didn't take to was the "smashing off" of spare weight from 2 cars using sledgehammers. No doubt very funny as always with JC, nevertheless overtones of western throw-away society came through. The watching locals could probably have made good use of the wing mirrors, etc etc before they were smashed up. Ah well....thats TV I suppose. I enjoyed everything else in the programme immensely.

I was wondering what they did with all the jettisoned parts too. Did they have a mop up crew to collect it all?
