Picked up a new A class, 2024, last month and was going to fit a dash cam but have hit some issues.
Don't like the option of 12v socket as the cover won't close, Mercedes don't fit the dash cam from the Accessories shop anymore, and they have told me that if I fit the device via hard wiring it will void my warranty of the areas affected, not good, there argument is that it could be fitted by anyone so no guarantee it's fitted correctly so short or fire risk, I use a Mercedes specialist but that doesn't matter to them as there's no guarantee they did it correctly and it's not as the car left the factory or fitted by Mercedes as an after product, bit strong but I don't think I've many options left.
Any ideas ?

Hello and welcome,

Wire another 12v socket from the factory fitted one, hide it behind the glovebox, run the dashcam cable down the A-pillar (carful to avoid the airbag) and connect it into the new hidden 12v socket.
(Fit an inline fuse ~5a) into the feed for the new socket and all should be fine.

Good idea, might look at that but how to do it, how to wire to the existing socket ?

A scotch lock connector on the wiring - something like the below - they enable you to run another wire off of the existing. For an inline fuse (to protect the wiring).

I'm not sure on the 2024 model, when my daughter had a 2021 GLA I ran a lead down the A pillar along the underside of the kickplates, under the front passenger seat and then into the USB socket that rear passengers could use to charge their toys, as she had no rear passengers that were not in isofix chairs it worked well. Some Mercedes have a 12V outlet in the boot/trunk so you could take the lead right though into there and use that, I did that on a GLC. As I said I don't know what options you have in the new A class.
Also on other cars I've taken the lead out or the rear of the armrest if the connector is low down inside the arm rest, it depends how tight the hinges are as whether this is an issue or not.

Thanks for that, will look at that.
