HI,

I Have a 2002 Mercedes E270 CDI new shape, and i was just wondering if i can take out the battery in the car to charge it using a battery charger because i use the car on a regular basis and the engine sometimes doesn't start up so it needs to be charged. what i mean is that will i lose any infromation that is stored on the dashboard if i take it out and charge it using a heavy duty battery charger.

i will be very greatful if you can help me
thank you

You only have to re set your windows and sun roof by holding the window and roof switches up it the closed mode, and holding the switch closed for 10 sec while in key 2

To put out the ESP lamp, just turn the steering from lock to lock 3 times and it will go out

If you use the car on a regular basis and the battery will not start the car, I would suggest dropping it by an auto electrician to check the charging system and ultimately the battery itself.
Sounds like a new battery to me!

Don't believe the original poster had a problem.
More like he was merely asking what would happen if he did something contrary to the usual practice.

IMO, he just needs a new, bigger capacity battery, that's all.

Are you saying that your battey goes flat for no reason?
Yes its a common problem. There are a number of known causes though so it's not that hard to sort.
Malcolm will know the most obvious ones but ours (2002 E220cdi) was a fault in the dashboard switch panel. The problem is that with the electronics, some things don't switch off for a while and some things magically wake up for no apparent reason.
On test, ours appeared fine for at least 30 mins, so initial tests showed the car was ok but left longer, the current draw suddenly jumped.
So it may take a day of diagnostics (locked up in the workshop with a meter attached, checked every 15 mins or so) rather than a normal quick check with the ammeter before the problem is identified.

Don't forget you will need the radio code if you disconnect unless you maintain a power supply.

Its not specific to the 270. All mercs of that era are prone. The 203 suffers too. Our 2002 E220 did but my 2004 E270 doesn't.
Have a look at http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=32715&highlight=211+battery+drain&page=1
common causes are window regulators, switch panels (see my earlier post), SAMS and command units if you have one. Diagnosis is standard though - monitor with an ammeter and pull fuses but (see my earlier post) don't expect it to show up immediately.
A decent auto spark should be able to sort it with the minimum of fuss.

This should not be too hard,, also on the list are seat controllers, overhead control panels.

What I do is to join up an ammeter and wait for the car to go to sleep, then withdraw the fuses one by one till you pull the one that has the big drain on it, The drain should be under 50ma
