mercedes boot not locking

hi, i have a mercedes e-200 {w210}..1998..whats happened is the boot locking mechanism has jammed , meaning i cannot not lock my boot.
the boot release function inside the car has an eternal light on.....i would be grateful for any advice and is it something i can repair myself...thanks{p.s. -i did try my key extension to no avail}

The lock can be removed to fix, or a good spray with Silicon could fix it, Silicon will not hurt the car in any way
