Mercedes c250 / W202 engine doesn't turn over?

Since changing the battery after it went flat, my C250 td w202 Mercedes wont turn over, would anyone have a suggestion what maybe causing this problem please?

Are you sure that the battery connections are good, turn the headlamps on and see if they go out when trying to start
