can i just ask, why is the trend the americans have for 'headers' now coming over here to the uk? what was wrong with the term 'performance exhaust manifold'? (or 4 branch manifolds, as they were known for 4 cylinder engines, 3 branch for each bank of a V6 etc)

from what i can see, theyre just a modern version of the old 4 branch manifold/downpipe we used to fit to XR3i's etc!

i take it that theyre made in the USA then?

and old school? at the time the XR3i was quite NEW school! we still had plenty of Capri's, Granada mk2s, cortina's, mk2 escorts etc kicking around our mates garages when I was messing around with such things!

those were the days..........when a car could be fixed and diagnosed by a decent mechanic rather than a computer!

I'm surprised that such high gains are available on a NA car, from a change of exhaust manifolds and downpipes. The originals must be very restrictive. So it is 100bhp from removing the artificial detune from MB and 50bhp from the fancy pipe work ?

A 450bhp stock car mapped has seen power increases to 500 bhp to 520 bhp. With the long tube headers/manifolds we have seen 550bhp to 570 bhp with fine dyno tuning.
The stock manifolds are quite restrictive.
