Well a Ferrari could loose £100k in the first year, that must be worse than mine as it did not cost that new

Malcolm, not quite, but close - around £80,000 for the "top of the range" car, but 99% of cars will always loose big money over the first two years or so, that's why I always buy a low mileage year old car and let someone else take the depreciation hit ;);)

Same for me, as a working hands on person I have never been in that league that could take that loss.

One day I will have a play with that calculator and find the worse car :D

Hm - never lost more than £5K on a car.

Actually never paid more than £5K - my depreciation is normally about £600 a year. Actually with the quality of cars these days I seem to be spending less (for more car, in better condition) each time I change. Can't see the point of tying up more capital in something that depreciates as fast as a car does.

An interesting study might be:

How old does a car have to be, before it is worth 50% of its original purchase price?

e.g. - Bentley Continental - 4yrs 2months

Vauxhall Corsa - 10 months

Jaguar XKR - 3yrs 2 months

etc etc etc
