Does anyone know if I can retrofit an electric boot opener on Mercedes E Class Saloon? Is this a simple DIY job or does it need a Merc Garage?

Thanks

Uh...Yes! What I really meant was can I fit this unit to a car that did not have it factory fitted as standard?

Thanks for clearing that. Sad to say that I think the cost would be far too high, Don't forget that MB charge £95 per hour plus VAT, the unit is going to cost a few hundred pounds. If it were me I would go to a breakers and remove the opening device myself and fit it. the wiring alone would be a huge job.

Thanks Malcolm. Sounds like good advice. It won't kill me to open it manually and for the cost to have it fitted it will do me good to exercise my limbs opening and shutting it!!

I have one on my SL, it only lifts about 3 inches, so you still have to lift it the rest. It is a smug feeling in a car prk when you open it on the remote.
My 300TE had an electric closing motor, that was nice.

I thought all 211's had electric openers? My 210 had one and so does my 211. It is a smug feeling as you cross the supermarket car park, just pop it as the people in front walk past and watch them jump. (then probably nick my laptop and run off! - serve me right for being a smug git).
Electric closing would be nice though.

My 210 has the key fob opening but the boot has never opened >3", it hardly lifts at all now. One day I will take out the boot liner and see if I can tension the springs a bit more so it lifts all the way.
My wife has a Honda Accord Tourer and I really like the electric opening and closing of the tailgate.
