Can anybody tell me if all the V6 diesel engines in the E320 are all 224 Bhp. I was told that they came out in mid 2005 and replaced the 3.2 straight 6 engine.

More power, slight increase in fuel economy, more power and less CO2 so allegedly better for the environment, smaller so fits in the C Class & ML Class also it has more power. For future reference, can you explain the advantage of the V6 over the straight 6

…. and a straight six is a difficult shape block to make work in conjunction with the front crumple zone. With a V6 - compact and square in plan (well relatively), it is much easier to design the structure to prevent it pushing back into the cabin.More power, slight increase in fuel economy, more power and less CO2 so allegedly better for the environment, smaller so fits in the C Class & ML Class also it has more power.
It replaced the IL6 3.2 & the IL5 2.7, it is available in 280CDI & 320CDI badges and the power is slightly different depending upon which car body it's bolted into.Didn't this engine replace the straight 5 cylinder 2.7 litre ?

No. The 280 replaced that. Although, the 280 and 320 are both the same 3.0L engine with one 'throttled' a bit.
It's an awesome engine. I can't believe how economical it is either. We only use our CLS for long runs of about 140 miles but at the end of each leg, including a little urban driving, we get nothing less than 43 mpg. That's us cruising at the legal motorway speeds (ish), just to add.
