Hi,

I am new here to the site. 1st Post. I am looking for a bit of dealer information for Ireland.

I am in the market for a new C-Class. I will be trading in an 06' plate VW Passat against it. Has anybody here already done research into which dealers in Ireland offer the best trade-ins against their cars?

I am also inthe market for a 1998/1999 CLK230 Coupe as a runaround.

Thanks.

Mike.

no such thing Mike.
Dealers never offer good trade ins. They simply make it look like they are - but it's a very simple trick.
In these days of big corporate dealerships, salesmen have to show a profit, not only on the car they sell you, but on the trade in. At the very least, they cannot show a loss. Hence ALL dealers will give you the trade auction value they know they could get, in the worst case scenario. They may tell you they're giving you more, but in reality all they are doing is giving you some of the discount you could have had on the new car anyway, only as a trade in levy.
Bottom line, its the price to change. And, on a new C at the moment, discounts will be almost impossible to get. Give it 18 months or so before they start discounting those.

The only other thing you could try is to find a dealership that has a VW dealer in the same group. They may be able to offer a slightly better price as they know where it's going and will sell it themselves, but even then, that dealer isn't going to want to pay much more than trade.

If you want good value, get yourself a nice facelift E instead - always great value at this stage in their lifecycle, and good offers to be had.

For what it's worth, there is a 250 td estate on carzone.ie for sale in wexford supposed to be a 'private sale' but its an crashed import. He had the neck to tell me to look at it at the garage because he was going over to England for a while.

Try Bradys in Castleknock in Dublin. Talk to Enda. He is the Boss. I have been dealing with him for years and find him hard to beat. I've bought six new cars off him and lots of old ones! They also have a VW garage next door. his number is 01 8213053.

Same in Westport,Mayo .Hastings MB & VW but their prices would scare you away.
For you runabout , source one in NI or GB with the spec. & history you want & hope for an easy ride with VRT.
Personally the only way to go is 30 years old. No VRT no NCT €42 road tax classic insurance & take you pick from a wide choice of bullet proof Mercs.Profit when you fancy a change & sell, a strong possiblity too , can't say that about contemporary cars

I love people from Ireland and I even married one. I used the term UK as a figure of speech, and I do not think that jungle Jims answer to me was very nice.
The question was difficult for anyone living in the UK as we do not have many mixed franchise MB dealers

Telivision,
Sorry if I offended you, but the original question was about trading in a VW in Ireland.
The first answer suggested trying a dealer in Ireland with a Merc/VW link, I then added that some Merc/VW dealers share premises in Ireland.
You then informed us that this set up doesn't happen in th UK, I know this, but we were talking about a scenario in Ireland, hence my reply.
Again no offence was meant.

Thank you very much for the reply :D The question is still hard for us over here as none has any experience of the set up where there is more than one franchise
Selling the car privately does make it easier where often a discount can be had on the new purchase

I have a good friend who bought his E class in Ireland as the prices were better than in the UK, but then the Irish duties were not imposed on it

Glad were all friends again.

I live in the UK but get my servicing done in Ireland using Mercedes. Saved a fortune over the years, plus warranties, mobilolife etc are all intact.

Mike,
I'd try Park Motors in Cabra or Ballsbridge Motors if you're in Dublin.
The Merc dealers here are all owned (I may stand corrected) by MSL which holds the franchise for both MB and VW - so you should be alright which ever one you go into.

Personally, I heartely agree with your first reply, by all means purchase from a dealership, even try one out-see what they offer you.
Then (if you or someone you know uses the internet as a second language), sell your car on e-bay motors / Auto trader, trust me you'll have a terrific holiday or 4 with the extra doe. Just add a note to each add explaining the car may be drawn from the sale due to other adverts, and you can always put a starting / reserve price of what you'd personally like for the car, it'll not be a week before it's sold.

PS know of excellent Mercedes Benz Mechanic - 25 years chief mechanic at Iisac Agnews of Belfast, name of John. get in touch if you need any advice on parts because
The mercedes I bought was from the Parts manager at Iisac agnews, who bought the car for his brother, who by that time had bought his own, the man set me up with the best 'out of house' mechanics and spare parts outlets in N.Ireland.

Chris of Newry ( Mercedes has never given me any money, which is why I wouldn't be so quick to chuck any their way ) ; )
