ON the basis that my key is falling to pieces (see my other posts) i was looking to get a new key. Phoned my local MB dealership and they want to charge me £250 for the priveledge. Now the car is 10 years old so i kinda grudge paying £250 for a key for it. Sooooo my question is.... does anyone know of anywhere cheaper that i can get a new MB key? it's the one button "switchblade" key blade

thanks in advance.

Try ebay. Theres always one or two on there. Then take out the guts from your key and transfer to the new key

As Ian, quite a few have bought them from Ebay and transferred the PCB over into the new case.

Get one for what they cost, post it to me and I will open it for you, free of charge, you can then open the old one and pop the PCB in, and close the case.

Hey, Malcolm

Can you share the know-how for opening the case - it seems to be glued together very well?

Cheers

Hi,
Depends on the age of the vehicle and type of key, my car is not quite ten years old and the key was £60-70 new from MB.
Put up a description of your key as i think people are getting confused on which type you have.
If yours is like mine buying another one the same off of e-bay etc, will be of no use as the key is manufactured to your car, the internals will 'not' operate another vehicle without reprogramming and MB say that it cannot be done.

Try "remote chips and blips" on the net. Greg is very helpfull and will advise if the innards can be easily switched. It was not difficult on my key.

Alternativly speak to your local proffesional car breakers (Trent in my area) they will have a key expert.
