Hi again folks,

What is the best way to register/link Mercedes Me with my phone when I'm getting a message to say that the VIN is still linked to another user? (previous owner)

I suspect you will have to involve your local dealer or do it by phone to Mercedes me Customer Services. They will probably need you to prove you are the owner (V5 and your driving licence).

if you log in to your Mercedes me portal on the website, there is a FAQ section at the bottom which might help.

Hi,

You will need to go into your local dealership with V5 and ID.

No appointment should be necessary , it can’t be done on the phone. They will take copies of ID and VIN number and by the end of the day should have swapped to your details. Had to do this myself a couple of months ago.

Morning all,

I made a phone call the other day to my nearest Mercedes dealer, and they had advised that I needed to contact Mercedes Me.

However when I have emailed to ask Mercedes Me support team their advice was to contact a local dealer in order to remove the previous owner.

Sounds pretty typical of Mercedes, sadly.

I'm getting nowhere with this.

Today I've used the owners manual and it says that when I connect my phone via USB I should get a Smartphone option on the Mercedes ME and App setting but all I get is an option for an Internet browser. When I click on that it eventually says url cannot be accessed, as there is no connectivity for my car to access the Internet.

Am I missing something obvious?

Have you got the dongle plugged in.
Mercedes Me is pretty pointless to be honest. Its just another interface to what you can get on your OBC.

What car have you got - it he,ps to put it on your profile for any future questions. If it is an older vehicle it is unlikely to have the inbuilt SIM card.

I am having the Mercedes Me dongle supplied and fitted free of charge later this month at Mercedes Newcastle. They are offering them FOC. My suggestion would be to call your local dealer and ask for a new one to be fitted. I also think if you go on to the Mercedes website you can register there also for one.

Don't waste your time. They give precious little information and a just a gimmick. I've had mine for over a year and it serves no purpose.
The built in Mercedes Me on the newer cars is different however. If you can get it to work.

Funny enough I did say that to them at the time. But they said it was free and after all the years of giving Mercedes my money the overwhelming feeling of what they said "its free of charge Sir" I just could not refuse. Plus I like gadgets even though it wont do a great deal.

Because it’s an optional extra and require initialising via STAR back to Germany

Right, so you have Mercedes Me connectivity inbuilt via a dedicated SIM.

The easiest way to get the car switched over to you is to call Mercedes from the car. Use the “ i “ button on the overhead console. Because you are calling from the car using the car's SIM, they can identify you as the legal owner and should be able to switch the vehicle to your Mercedes Me profile. I’m pretty sure we have had other threads on here and that worked for them.
