This has happened to me twice, and I started down the line that the Turbo was leaking (runaway diesels....), but its not, and when I looked at the accelerator, I could see no issue, spring was fine at the pedal, fine on the bulk-head, moves freely etc.

Possible problems, 1. Carpet (make sure its not walking up towards the pedals), 2. dirt/dust in the cable, 3. dirt in the potentiometer on the bulk-head. I havent got to the conclusion of this, until it happens again, so anyone else with more info, it would be surely appreciated.

Sticky throttle actuator?
The throttles are electronic so you may not feel anything through the pedal. I'd call MB, this sort of thing can lead to lawsuits, so they should be very helpful.

Thanks for all the advice guys... here's what happened.
I contacted MB UK to advise them of my problem and see what they can do for me,well they contacted my Local MB Dealer, Lakeside Mercedes Benz.
They advised that there will be a £99 set charge for a diagnostic check.
I explained i am not happy about paying as this is a safety issue, but agreed to pay the £99 to enable them to diagnose and find the problem.
Well after approx 4 hours they said they could not determine any problems when road tested but have lubricated the throttle cable, mechanism and body.
When i was handed my keys, i was advised there is no charge as we only lubricated where we suspected the fault to be.
So i am happy that it hasn't cost me,but still worried in case this is to happen again.
And theres the situation with my Speeding Ticket,as i have recieved a NIP through the post which was a direct result of a sticking throttle cable.
Am i entitled to appeal ? now i have clarification from MB my car has gone in for this problem ?
Any Feedback would be greatly appreciated..
Just to advise i was caught doing 40mph in a 30mph zone :-|

You can try to appeal, but I suspect, given the recent media interest in such things - like the moron with the BMW, that they will probably fight you. Whether you could convince a court, especially as the dealer didn't find the fault, is difficult.
Sour taste, but I'd probably try a letter then just swallow it.
