Can anyone help PLEASE!!!!!

Everytime I lock the car the alarm sounds, when I unlock the car the alarm it either decides to carry on making that racket whenever it wants, or it stops. Its great when it stops but the only problem is the car has to stay unlocked and now the little toe rags in the area I live in have now cottononed on (ie now missing 1x Sat Nav and 1x Laptop case) my own stupid fault for leaving them in there. If anyone can help you will stop me from visiting the local looney bin.

Many Thanks

Lee

It could be one of many things:
1. Boot, Door or bonnet switch not registering that they are closed.
2. Internal movement detectors being triggered by something or at fault.
3. Trembler/tamper alarm triggering.

Is the vehicle under warranty of any kind - i.e. MB warranty or bought recently? If so take it back and press the point to see if they will solve it free of charge.

Its most likely going to take some serious work to solve, but then that will be a lot cheaper than a new laptop, satnav or ML270!

Surely there is a way of locking the car manually without switching on the alarm.
See your handbook and check your other keys for fit into passenger door.

This should be an easy fix with any good indi that has the correct equiptment. MBs, as well as having a fault memory, also have a menu called "actual vaues". In this menu, you can see what was the last thing which caused the alarm to activate, thus doing 95% of the diagnosis.
You can also do some yourself.

1 Ignition on
lower all windows
make sure interior light will come on if door opened
close all doors
is interior light off?
pull each door slightly to see if this brings on interior light, if so, the problem is either that door switch or door adjustment.
no difference?

2 Lock car/set alarm
how long till alarm goes off?
unlock & switch off interior sensors
lock again
any difference?
unlock & switch off motion sensor
lock again

Switching off interior sensors & motion sensor are explained in handbook.

I think that the diagnosis test gear should come with the car:cool:

Send them a memo.
They would love any excuse to increase the price of their new cars;)

Now that's interesting as how different minds work,I had not thought of it that way, my reasoning was that the price of the diagnosis test set would fall to £150.
