mercedes ML270 TDI

hi im after some help got a ml270 and i was driving along and all of a sudden it lost all its power but no engine mangemant light come on,wont go over 50mph in auto but goes bit better in manaul.To me the engine sounds muffeld ive had a quick look being a mechanic myself but ive never worked on one before so not sure where to start.any1 with any ideas or had this trouble before?thanks

Is the exhaust blocked inside,or as far as i know they can go into a recovery mode and need reset.Dont quote me on that as i am not sure of the full details.

Sue might be right, i was told by MB that when my ML 270CDI exhaust clamp broke it could be caused by a blocked cat building up pressure in the exhaust system and forcing the joint apart (The service manager said that they had previous cases of this happening). As it turned out, the cat was ok.

Anyway, let us know what the problem was when you solve it.

this fault could possibly be the inlet port shut off valve bu will have to go on the das machine to verify the fault

Sounds like the air mass sensor to me. Engine is in a "get you home" state. Engine is muffled as its not doing much! The petrol ones behave in the same way, appear to die but will get up to 50 if you persever, idles lika a bag of spanners though. Either way DAS is the only way to find out.
