Apologies if this a repeat question, but I have searched this forum without success.
I would like to buy a model of a W203. Preferably in 1:18 scale or larger, and again, preferably in silver.
Doesnt seem to be a problem getting hold of W204 models, or the older classic models, but a W203...........
The only one I can find is this....
http://www.3000toys.com/catalog/item_detail.aspx?itemfind=WELLY2097-R
which is OK, but I would rather have something better detailed and larger scale. Colour can always be changed.........
Either in kit form or diecast.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please.

Hi,

It is difficult finding models of the W203 - as you identified a company called Welly do make one. They do make more than just the red one you found though.

They make a 1:18 scale model in Silver - It is model number 19853

check out the link to all the C-class models on their website:

I had no idea how difficult it was going to be to track a model of a W203 down.
I found a retailer in Poland who had one in stock, but in the end I found a shop in France with just one in stock. It should now be winging its way to the UK as I type.............:D

Hi verytalldave

Who in France?

I have a hankering to own a W202, preferably in my own car's colour.

My indie has a fine collection of vintage Mercedes in his office, each about 4 inches long. No W202s though. Not yet a classic! Probably never will be.

REGARDS

I wanted a 1:18 scale or larger model of a W203 finished in silver. The link you kindly supplied is not a W203 - I think its a W202 - but I might be wrong on that point. Also, I think it may only be a 1:43 scale model. MB models dont have a W203 model in 1:18 in silver - at least, I couldnt find one.
E-bay didnt have anything, so I just did an advanced search on Google and tracked a few retailers down. Nothing in the UK, even the well known top model outlets were unable (or unwilling?) to help.
Welly, the actual makers of the model I have purchased, are located in Hong Kong. They dont sell retail - trade only, and have a minimum order value of $8000 plus a few other provisos.

You are right............If I had known about that 2 days ago, I wouldnt have needed to order abroad. Damn........
However, to be EVER so nit-picky........I mean really, REALLY nit picky......the model I have ordered has the 5 spoke sports wheels, which is as my car, and not as the model available on the minimerc site which has the regular alloys. A small, point but one that makes the extra cost and bother almost worthwhile. Almost......

Thanks Phil..............:p :p :p

4" long would probably make it a 1:43 scale model. Its not too much of a problem getting a model in that scale, although varaiation in price and quality of finish/detail is huge. Models at that scale can be anything between less than £5 up to around £50 depending.
I purchased my model from a Mr Charles on this website..... http://en.europe-miniatures.com/
He was the only retailer I could find that had a WELLY model of a W203 in 1:18 scale finished in silver - and in stock.

I have def seen a silver W203 in my local MB. I remember 'cos I too would like a model of my car. The one they had was not the estate and it was rather expensive!

they had them at the old Merc Museum

in Stuttgart, in fact I think they had one of nearly every Merc model. They even had some Chrysler things as well. I bought a little 300SL convertible, made by Cararama I think. Worth a sniff on google maybe?

well I suppose one man's nit picky is another man's attention to detail ......whatever would you have said when it arrived and was left hand drive? - forgot to mention that! Hope the one you've bought does the trick.:p

Yes..........thats a problem.....all W203 models I have seen are based on LHD cars. Its unavoidable I am afraid. Even the one I have purchased. :(

The model I ordered of a silver W203 1:18 scale arrived yesterday - and very good it is too. I would have prefered an exact copy, but I think this is about as close as I am likely to get. :D

it's amazing what you can do with a computer, say 12 font size, yellow highlight background for the rear plates - hey presto they fit - with a bit of help from mr prit stick !
