Q1
Having bought a 2001 E Class, I was astonished to find that my hands free Nokia holder was designed for the ageing Nokia 6150. My question is, having traced the wiring down under the carpet I found that the kit reaches a sort of simple "plug and play" type connection, do you know if I can simply replace the Nokia 6150 holder to take the newer Nokia 6210. It is really just the handle bit that you "pick up" that would need replacing as opposed to the "anchor" section as well. And will it still function normally with the on-board computer? Having been to my "local Benz dealer" (to save their blushes!!!) it was head scratching all round followed by quotes enough to buy a small car!!

Q2
When getting after market leather re-trims, do you know if they actually do the doors as well?? And can you recommend anyone close to Gatwick? Many thanks

For the kit I would seek the advice of a proffesional mobile phone specialist, often in bed with ICE.
The dealers still supply the old style even now!!

as for leather, sorry, dont know the answer to that one

I have had a similar problem with my Nokia car kit. When I bought my E280 W124 earlier this year there was already installed a Nokia car-kit which worked fine with a 6150. When I upgraded my phone to a 6210 the car kit would work fine for several minutes then fail to ring (although continue to charge).

Strangely enough my other newer 6210 (one from work and one personal, may I add) works fine without problem.

As a solution I can only suggest two things:

1. Keep a spare 6150 in the car and change over the sim card. (Not ideal I know).

2. Try your 6210 in the car-kit, all being well it should work, if not as an earlier reply suggested, take it to a specilist. The normal charge is around £200.00 to install a new kit and I imagine changing just the cradle should be cheaper.

Regards the connections at the bottm of the phone these are the same for both the 6150 and the 6210, so changing /modifying the cradle should be possible. The best place for Nokia information is The Nokia store on Regent Street London, however since this is part of the Carphonewarehouse they should also be able to help. I think ther telephone number is 0800925925.
Hope this is of use, if not sorry.

Mercedes+Nokia!!!

Thanks for the info guys. I am now told that it would be possible to simply swap the handle where the Nokia6150 "settles in" to a handle that takes a 6210 and that it would probably work fine with the on-board computer just as though it was a 6150! Having asked my "very knowledgable" dealer , it was , yet again, scratching heads all round as to whether the computer will accept the new handle or not!! I cant see why not since the handles are technologically identical but with a difference in shape at the top where the 6150 has an antenna and the 6210 doesn't! Any thoughts? And also any thoughts as to where I can get my E-Class retrimmed in leather?

Many thanks:cool:
