Hey Guys,

I've managed to purchase a low mileage SL350 from 2003 which actually has no rust, as confirmed by the dealer and an indie this morning :)

With that in mind, what's the general consensus on investing into getting it rust protected? It's a summer only car and will continue to be garaged and used in dry weather whenever possible. Will getting anti-rust be overkill in this case or they're that bad that it makes no difference on how the car's used?

Thanks!

If you can get it up (the car) and dont mind getting messy waxoyl.

If the car is a keeper then get it done.

Dinotrol seems to be a popular option these days.

My Volvo was done with something that appears black and rubbery, 130k later it’s still like the day I bought it with the protection all still in tact despite doing 1,000 miles a week snow or shine.

As Merc’s are rust buckets do whatever you can!!

That's settled then, getting it done in a couple of weeks :)

Many thanks for the feedback!

DSK. I asked them to use Dinotrol as it has good creeping properties into joints etc.
The other option they had was Waxoil which does not.

Ok got it. Anyone tried Krown?

Was reading about them but seems it’s too aggressive for a car like this.

Thanks.

Aggressive? must have excellent creeping properties.to stop rust in joints where panels meet.

From what I've read, this stuff leaks for weeks and can damage garage flooring, plus it can lead to plastic bits melting, we have a lot of those on our cars. Plus to top it off, they actually drill small holes in small places when applying the stuff. I like the concept of rustproofing but not sure how i feel about extra holes being drilled in the car :)

We offer this as a service. Removal of all trays, fittings etc. A wash and dry and then 2 coats of Dynax UB, and S50 inside cavity areas. From my expreience and testing Dynax offers the best protection of products of its type. Its easy to remove if needed, but hard to remove if not, and the areas underneath are allways kept in great condition.

All my cars get it done as a first item!

I've put Dinitrol cavity wax (3125) in the rear subframe of my W204 on the main areas both sides where the subframe rusts internally. Used an aerosol can with a 600mm extension wand. Warm the can in hot water first to help it flow better. Pretty easy job with easy access with just the wheels removed; not need really to go underneath the car.

Ideally, you need to get some on the boot floor, this is where the spray really starts the rust
