I have to say that credit where it's due.I took my 6 year old 220 cdi in for an inspection of a small amount of rust in the usual places on the front and rear wing edges.

My local dealer took photos and after proving the car was mine they submitted the warranty claim to Mercedes. They said it would be about 6 weeks before I would know if it was accepted.

After 4 weeks I got a call asking me to book the car in for the work to be done. They replaced both front wings and repaired the slight rust on the rear wing edges. While this was being done I had the use of a free loan vehicle and after quoting me 7 to 10 working days to complete, it was ready in 6 working days.

The finish looks excellent although I still need a close inspection in good light but I can't see any problems. It has been a very good and worthwhile experience and the overall cost must of been around the £1500 with parts.

I realise people will have different levels of service but my North East dealer was helpful and efficient. Well done to them!

out of curiosity - how long have you owned the car? and are you a regular user of the dealership?

I ask because there have been reports of refusal from 'new' buyers hough admittedly the cars may have been a year or two older.

I bought the car at the begining of July this year.I have'nt used the dealer yet as the car is 10k off it's next service.I will have to get an immobiliser problem sorted which seems connected to tailgate. If I open it even with engine running, next time I switch off it doesn't recognise the key.If I lock it with fob and wait 10 mins it re-sets and off I go.

They wanted to see Merc service history which it had and they asked me if I would let them service it.I aske dhow much and they gave me a print out of charges.

An "A" service with semi-synthetic oil is £199.99 and £219.99 with Mobile 1 oil. "B" service costs £299.99 with semi-synthetic and £319.99 with Mobil 1 oil. I think thats very good compared to what I've read on here.

Mercedes Teeside, Preston Farm, Stockton-on Tees. If you want to submit a claim you need your service book with Mercedes stamps and your reg doc for proof of ownership.Take a few weeks to process claim but if they accept it you'll be pleased with result.

An A service would be something like 1.4 hours with an oil filter at say £10 with 6.5 litres of oil

So if they charge over £100 per hour and £14 per litre for the oil I guess £199 is near the mark!

Worth pointing this out to them and asking for a reduction

C class sports coupe door rust 2002 model 42000 miles

Sorry to dampen you praises of MB !!!!
My experiences are not as good
I have had rust on my doors for 1 1/2 years
I have had 2 repairs done by MB, but recently i have been rejected and have argued the point for 2 months.
The reason they say is the rust should have been noticed when the previous repair was done ie one repair at the top of the door window, the other the bottom of the door could not be further apart
However the independent repairer kinghorn have agreed to do the repair at their cost

just thought i would let you know this rust problem has different MB interpretations

You could do well to name those concerned, it all helps to build a picture of where to go

Odd - I can understand MB themselves being reluctant but that puts the dealer that made the claim firmly in the frame (as it was their job to spot it) and therefore by inference, back to MBUK as they effectively represent them from your perspective. Then there is the repairer who still had to put paint over the top of rust. So that gives you 3 to go at and nice to hear that one of the guilty 3 has taken responsibility!

You can only appreciate your own experiences and mine have been excellent.
I have had the opportunity to have a very close examination of the work and I can't fault it anywhere. It's as good a paint job as I have seen.No sign of overspray or masking issues and the finish is what I would compare to be as "original"

It's important to give the good and the bad as has been mentioned to help people make decisions on who to deal with.

Good to hear a dealer has taken responsibilty and will carry out the work at their cost.It won't do any harm for future relations with you and they may enjoy future business from you,an attitude which more businesses should take on board.

Good point. I guess I'm not conversant with exactly how much they do on a service.I will have to read the service schedule and find out! If theres not much more than an oil and filter change then it's not good value but I was aware the hourly rate is about £90.

to JBerks & Television-C class rust on doors more detail

Gents:
I have had rust on my doors for 1 1/2 years ( i have noticed the rust on all 3 occasions not the dealer,& have pointed this out to them) their policy due the MB body shop being in Inverness (50 miles approx from Aberdeen), is to use the independent (MB approved) repairer to take pictures & report back to them, although the first claim they wanted to see the car (in Aberdeen)

I have had 2 repairs done by MB (of inverness) paying the cost through one of their approved repairers ie kinghorn of bucksburn (aberdeen), but recently i have been rejected and have argued the point for 2 months.

The reason they say is the rust should have been noticed when the previous repair was done ie one repair at the top of the door window, the other the bottom of the door could not be further apart or easy to notice

However the independent repairer ie kinghorn have agreed to do the repair at their cost, not MB so i,m satisfied but concerned should i have any more problems

hope this clears this up for Television & JBerks
