As a matter of interest, how secure would my W210 be in deterring thieves? The central locking, steering lock and factory alarm system seem very sophisticated but is this enough? Have any members had there pride and joy stolen? How were they taken? What was the damage if and when they got them back?

Please note, I'm not a potential car thief, just a curious owner!

Its near impossible to steal a 210 without the key, so you can relax

The key on you car is part of the DAS system,,, that is drive authorization system, you cant even unlock the steering or gear shift without the right key yet alone the immobilizer. The code for the keys has never been cracked

Hi robz-mbz

Your inquiry suggests you are thinking about car thieves and not thieves who break into cars to steal possessions. I doubt that thare is any security system capable of detering the latter.

But what about organised theft where a vehicle could be lifted onto a low loader and spirited away? My Mercedes, probably many Mercedes vehicles, have lift sensors. How do they work and how effective are they likely to be? I imagine the alarm will sound if the front wheels are lifted from the ground through a certain angle but what would have if all 4 wheels were lifted together? Nothing?

hence guard your keys carefully.

Also......hence......when you go on holiday take both your keys and keep one safe elsewhere. That way if you do lose your main set of keys somewhere, you can still continue to drive with little or no delay.
Whats the use of a spare key sitting in a drawer hundreds of miles away?
