Hi I have a problem with my convertible roof, it won't release or go down, iv had a number of mechanics trying to fix the problem,apparently the roof module is fine so is the hydraulics, i don't whant to go to mercdes with there hourly rate or to sl shop, just need to be steered in the right direction,or is there anyone out there would know a solution.

@Wearsafoxhat and @LostKiwi both have R129's so should be able to give some advice

When you hold the switch in the open position does the light flash in a repeated pattern. Something like 5 flashes, pause, 5 flashes etc? It could be a different number of flashes each time until it repeats i.e 5,6,10,5,6,10 etc.

I would take it to a good mechanic who knows these cars, not necessarily MB but an MB independent. The roof is a complicated thing.
It will save money in the long term, one diagnostic read out should give you the answer.

Hold the switch in the open position. If the light comes on solid that's no errors. If it flashes count the flashes cycles.

You should hear the pump run when you operate the switch. Do the top rail latches operate? (Usually a loud clunk).

If the pump doesn't run you'll need to find out why - 12v supply, relay, bad motor (assuming the obvious hasn't been missed - no hydraulic oil).
