Can anyone help me I would like a picture of the boot/trunk hinge so I can see how it should sit I opened the service boot now I can't close the back end of the boot

Have a trawl through YouTube… since you mentioned service, I found this which may help…

One of our R230 did this, turned out that the flap wasn't returning fully due to a worn gear drive.
Or a better option would be to check the battery is fully charged first, these cars need 14.6 volts to make things work.

Will give the battery a charge I have upgraded the gear drive if anyone can be so kind as to take a picture of the hinges that are hidden in the side carpet I think It would be a great help

I'm sure someone will be along with a photo for you, I'm on holiday in NZ at present and all my mates seem to be Jaguar orientated

I think that is a good shout. That is what happened when my R230 boot lid flap stopped working, the boot lid parked like that. First time I drove to Mercedes and they fixed it. Second time I replaced the worm gear/flap myself. Easy DIY.

I would, the problem is I have sold my 230 and now have a 231, which is probably different. Happy to take a pic of that, the car is parked outside.
