I recently removed a 3rd party after market reverse camera, so I could use the original one that was factory fitted. I tested the camera was working fine using a CCTV meter that also supplied the camera with a 12v supply, and it tested fine. I ran a new power line to the after market stereo which I was fitting and when I switched the camera to reverse it switched but showed nothing on the screen. I then connected it again to my CCTV meter, and it showed up fine (Via the new supply that I ran from the rear camera to my new head unit) I connected the video signal back to my new head unit, and it showed fine. I then disconnected the 12v supply from my CCTV tester and connected it direct to the battery. Seems when alternator is running and voltage is above 12v, it's cutting out. My question is. is there a protective circuit in the rear camera that is cutting off the supply if it's above 12v? I'm going to fit a 7812 voltage regulator to see if this is the cause.
I reckon the reason there was a 3rd party camera as a previous owner may have had the same result. Just wondering if anyone in here has experienced the same issue?
Thanks
