Often wonder who is the supplier of parts to Mercedes. I would add i tend not to buy from uk dealership. Unless forced too.
A point re recent replacement parts on the R230 which has Mercedes service history till 6 years old when i bought it.
Last year replaced the original front ball Joints (TRW)
This year replaced the original engine mounts (BOGE)
as well as the original transmission mount (SRS)

I replaced these items using a known sizable German Manufacturer.

When you may do 4000 miles per annum if you do a European tour or 2000 or less if not.

UK Dealerships are just to greedy on the Markups.
I take the same approach with S tank (old work car)

Look at your use and make your choice !

I'd say that TRW and Boge are reputable. No idea about SRS.

There is talk on forums about aftermarket parts quality vs. MB genuine. My recent experience concerns ignition parts for my 1991 M104 engine.

A garage fitted a Bosch distributor cap and rotor arm in October 2019 - they didn't need to replace these but I suppose they wanted to generate some revenue. After 9 months the cap was cracking around the centre electrode. I junked it and the rotor arm in favour of genuine MB. The new parts were also from Bosch but with MB stars on them.

Are the MB Bosch parts the same as the Bosch? All I can say is that the MB Bosch cap is still fine after 3+ years. Coincidence? No idea.

What I can say with confidence is that the MB (Bosch again) lead set that I bought in Bochum is streets ahead of both the new NGK and Beru sets I had in stock. They click into place on the plugs in a way that the others didn't. No doubt.

Do others have any comment on this?

Trial an error imo. Some stuff is better original and some stuff is of better quality aftermarket.

Suspension stuff I try and stick with Lemforder where possible as a default rule.

Ignition parts and engine sensors etc I always buy OEM. Been lucky with Volvo and Bosch plugs as a Bosch make the OEM Volvo plush and cost around £80 and the same plug by Bosch, with the same stripes and engraving I get for around £40 on OpieOils. I’ve had issues in the past where non OEM engine sensors were not performing the same on BMW M cars. To the untrained but cheeks there was no difference but, to me I could feel the minute differences. Replacing with OEM fixed that.

This afternoon i'm having both the suspension Arms on my S tank replaced (air strut support) lemforder is my German manufacture of choice.
Never mentioned previously as i don't want to get into a opinion chat. SL 2-4 k & old work car S 4 K (not 20- 24 K any more) Cant see the value of merc prices for little used cars these days. Not as though i will ever sell them !.

FYI one of the suspension Arms was original and totally rusted away and shot, the other was a replacement Arm, I have a print out of Mercedes history so one of the previous two owners in the 32 months of the cars life had a single arm replaced. A failure i suspect. Not by Mercedes mechanic. No mention or noted receipt. Not as anal as me when it comes to history.
