Mercedes UGH? grey sills

:confused:Um, I'm wondering if Mercedes gave me the right paint code 7738 for sills on an early 190E I'm cleaning up:

The dark grey that was on the car when I got it seemed smarter.

7738 is a light grey metallic applied without laquer according to PPG colour chart.

PS I bought Richbrook silver valve caps and this silver/grey colour takes the eye away from them. Does anyone recall these sills or have this light grey for their sills?

Yes that colour is much too light, the original grey was more like a faded black bumper grey, I have just looked at some on EBay USA.


Must say that from what we can see your car is looking good

Thanks Malcolm for the compliment.

Let this be a lesson to all purists and semi-purists like myself.

I spent all morning wearing 7 layers of clothes in the freezing cold to convert the sill from a fade black bumper grey to a light grey that looks awful with red (even tho' it goes with the chrome wheel arches :) ).
