Hi just became the owner of a 1993 s320 w140 has a few defects main one being the wipers dont work on intermittant just judder up and down screen.
any ideas(intermittant relay?).

Hi Andy and welcome,,nice cars the 140 as share a lot in common to a 129 re the electrics,,its possible relay and also possible the stalk as both can give some problems

When you say judders does it do a full sweep, and are they fast on the other settings

Hi Malcolm no they don't do full sweep only judder up halfway then you need to operate switch again this gets them to fully up then you need to operate swtich twice to get them back down again only on intermittant work find on speed one and two.

Just bought a W140 and told by previous owner that he had to have a part machine made for the wipers, by a friend. Think he said that the cog had worn out and a replacement unit was extremely expensive. (£150) Sorry can't be that exact as I didn't take in everything he said about the car, so hopefully I got this wrong.

There is a nylon cog wheel in the gearbox for the drivers wiper arm that makes it reciprocate through its sweep.I have to use a press to open the box and have managed to replace the cog with a close equivalent. If I had enough support I may have a batch made (not cheap) but cheaper than a used box!
