Hi

My vehicle is a CLK W209 220 CDI 2005.

My car start ok when the engine is cold. But when you run it for a while then stop and start, it wont start. No crank, Radiator fan runs at high speed and no glow plug light on instrument cluster.

Then if you leave it to cool down and start it will start as normal and runs well. when you switch the car on, if the glow plug light on instrument cluster comes on it will start.

When the car doesn't start ( no crank, fan runs at high speed, and no glow plug light on instrument cluster), the ODB analyser says cannot communicate with the ECU.

When the car is cold and can start, I get the following messages on the Analyser.

Transmission Control Module
--------------------------------
P2311 - One of More messages from the Engine Control unit A not available on CAM bus \9 Cam time out fault)
P2312- One of More messages from the Engine Control unit A not available on CAM bus \9 Cam time out fault)

ECM - Engine Control Module
-----------------------------------
1664-4 Check Component N33/2 ( Heater Booster Control Module) Signal line is interrupted.
2356-8 N3/9 CDI control unit Recovery Error
2386-8 Replace component N3/9 CDI control unit, Internal fault

ESP Electronic Stability Program
-------------------------------------
C1022 - CAN communication with the engine system is faulty
C1038 Engine Control Module Not Identified or Incorrect control Module

Checked all fuses in the engine compartment fuse box.

Is this the ECU failing or other electrical issue with the car ? has anyone had this issue and got a fix for it ?

Any suggestions/help is really appreciated.

thanks

Mainly Mercedes
I’m with Star. It might be worth removing, inspecting and reseating the plugs at the engine ecu, and also examining the earth connections that are associated with it.

Update - I had Mercedes mobilo road side assistance, called them today. Mercedes RAC guy came and scanned the car and found additional issue my scanner didnt pick up.

B1003-Communication fault with control unit N26/5 (Electric steering lock control module)
B1001 - Under voltage supply

His suggestion was to change Electric steering lock control module first.

The steering unlocks correctly when key is inserted and no issue rotating the key.

Is this the real issue for non-starting and ECU not switching on ? OR is this due to a failing ECU ?

Any suggestions appreicated

No, I think changing the steering lock will be a waste of money.
High speed fan running indicates a communication fault with the engine ECU, that your codes back up.

You also have codes that indicate there is an internal fault with the engine ecu:

2356-8 N3/9 CDI control unit Recovery Error
2386-8 Replace component N3/9 CDI control unit, Internal fault

Could I have 2 issues ? the ECU and failing EIS EZS ? I have seen on the internet that EIS EZS fails as well and need repair. There are repair or cloning services for this.

Do I first clone the ECU and see first ?

I will clone it and see, ECU part number has been super seeded by 2 new numbers, I guess the original ECU part had an issue and they upgraded/fixed it and released as a new part number.

Some are chassis/year specific. Match the bosch number and you will be ok

UPDATE - Sent the ECU for cloning, but they called and said there is a Software corruption. ECU communicates but its not sure what it is. He said part of the main software is corrupt and cannot be cloned. He is going to try again.

Options I have been given is to clear immobiliser details so it will work with the car ( Hopefully) or virgin the new ECU and get it programmed to the car.

How do you get a virgin ECU programmed to the car and do you know who does them ?

You program a virgin ecu using star/Xentry.

Vrigim ecu is the same as a new one would come from the dealer.

Thank you so much for pointing out the its ECU issue. Finally the cloning guy was able to read the software after heating up the ECU (Could be a faulty/cracked connection.)

Car starts and runs well. It runs better that how it was. no issues for now.

Thanks again for your suggestions.
