Mercedes W212 Rear Door Lock Problem - Child Lock deactivtion

Hi,

I am hoping someone might have some experience or knowledge or trickery on this.

2010 S212 E350 Estate. The rear outer door handle has failed in some way and feel like it is no longer attached/actuating and the interior door handle will not work, purely because the child lock is on. Is there any way to open to deactivate the child door without ripping off the door card etc

I have tried sticking a heavy duty cable tie into the door jamb and move it about to try and catch the switch for the child lock but with no joy. Would car security these days rule out a locksmith sticking something down the side of the window and releasing the lock?

Not sure if you fixed this, but had this exact problem!

You may have used the wire to get in from the inside/outside somehow.

But lost it and just snapped/cut the loose door handle from the outside with metal cutters.

Once I remove it, I used a wire coat hangar to feel around and pull something inside, not sure if I was just lucky but within 2-3 minutes the door was open and I could turn off the child lock. That saved a lot of effort for garage.

My local Indy Garage replaced *replacement snapped handle 2nd hand about £30) and it was working again, but only lasted two weeks although got me through the MOT. No idea what they did.

When it failed again, they seemed convinced it was the whole actuator/lock mechanism and wanted £500 to replace the whole lock mechanism and strip door down. I didn't want to do that. This was last November, and it's still loose (but works from inside).

Got more time now, and about to take the handle off from the outside now and have a look to see if I can get it working again, noone ever replied on here with advice on what to try. I really do not want to be stripping the internal riveted metal panel (the outer panel is easy to remove).

Hi. I managed to get in through the door jamb with a wire and unlock the child lock and open the door. I opened and closed the door countlesstimes. Unfortunately there was a problem with the whole actuator/lock mechanism as once I locked the car with the remote and unlocked it again the door would not open from outside or inside so I ended up having to take the door card off and go drilling and dragging etc and do a replacement. Not a pleasant job! Thanks

I have this same issue, so did you use a door jamb on the outside to prise the door open a little and then use the wire?

So I managed to get my door open, need to fix the outside handle next.

So like the op, rear left door outside handle not working and child lock on so couldn't open from inside.

I tried cable ties (found metal ones too) but too bendy width wise, and the welding core but couldn't get that through between the door and sill as too tight.

What eventually worked an old chopping mat that is ~ 2 mm thick, cut that ~ an inch wide and cut a rectangle hole in the middle ~14cm long and pass that through between the door and sill just under the lock which is just above the armrest from inside to the outside. Then Mrs & I pulled the improvised tool up towards the lock, you should be able to hear the child lock latch flick as the mat passes over, you can't pass the mat past the lock so the only way is down & that switch gets captured in that hole in the mat and will flick down.

Has taken me 2 days to get it open, I was about to resort to cutting the lock from outside if this last attempt had failed. I had been trying a different piece of mat shaped at 1 end to try and push the latch as it passed & also shaped with a 2cm hole & I could hear the switch as the mat passed but the force needed to move the switch was too much and I guess the mat was eventually just passing over the switch.

update to add that in my case fixing the lock took less than 10 minutes.

I followed what was in the 1st video above.

on the rear door you need a long T20 screwdriver to reach the screw where the handle is.

it may take a little while of probing with screwdriver until you find it.

once unscrewed the lock shroud will become loose.

pulling the handle you will notice a hooked thing behind it, using a hooked tool pull that hook towards the handle and push the handle so its hook goes behind the other hook (you'll know what I mean).

now close the door and test the handle, it should work.

Job done, reassemble the handle shroud and done.

Merc wanted £110 just to diagnose the fault, then no doubt it would be a new actuator etc etc, I estimated they'd charge £800 all in including 2 workshop hours & VAT.

Before I start screwing with (actually, unscrewing, the way it's shown in the video) the door lock, could you please tell me more about the 'pulling the handle you will notice a hooked thing behind it, using a hooked tool pull that hook towards the handle and push the handle so its hook goes behind the other hook' - this part worries me, as I'm not sure I'll know what to do.

1st thing is to get the door open and turn off the child lock,

next step is the screw driver and remove the handle

last step, take your time, look at the mechanism and it should be obvious.
