MFD fault (characters illegible)

Hi,

First time poster, hope you can help!!
I came across a fair priced 1.8 C180 Kompressor Avantgarde online, low mileage, good condition in & out. The only issue though, is the Multi function display is faulty, see attached image. Is this an easy fix or more underling issues? The garage said it can fix before I pick the car up but I am two minds.

Advice would be much appreciated.

If you’re handy with a soldering iron it can be. You’ll need to remove the dash cluster then strip it down to get to the LCD board. They suffer from dry joints on the LCD panel
