E320 cdi avantgarde 2007
Hi all
Many moons ago, when I worked in London, I used to commute 3 times a week in my Mercedes E class avantgarde (round trip of 320 miles!). Having changed career and many cars later, I decided to go back to the one car I truly loved......and found a similar Mercedes, 10 years younger, but the interior was still wrapped in the walnut I so adored! The oldest car I have bought for years, but it is like "going home". Sat in it, purred on the test drive.......and took it home with me! 2007 plate E320 cdi avantgarde. I am in love all over again! Never thought I would buy an older car but with 75k on the clock it is barely worn in. I dare say I will encounter problems and hopefully with all the Merc lovers here I will find help! At just 4ft 11 it is a mighty car for a small owner, but it has captured my heart and I hope to have a long and happy relationship with it as i did my previous one. Pleased to meet you all.......... What a drive :)

Not technically knowledgeable, but the drive, grip on the road and general feel of the driving experience exceeded what I remember from my former Merc. It has many 'bells and whistles' I will probably never use or know exist, but I feel safe in the knowledge of driving a work of art...!

Whatever you paid for it, or how old that Mercedes is makes no difference to the fact that you enjoy owning it and obviously love to drive it. Welcome.

Frankly.the older yr benz the less likely it will be to set fire to yr wallet and if you are willing to tinker (which is still a design feature ) ,,the cheaper yr motoring is going to be.
I have three benz AClass w168, clk 320 w208 and ml350 w166 i also had the r230 v12
Without question the most reliable ,economic is the clk,320 a2001 car ,serviced as all by me oil filter changes every yr regardless of miles .never a bush ,ball joint.even exhaust original
Its a different business model now and apart from the toys it aint a better thing for us in my view.I get real pleasure driving the clk cos I know I aint going to get any dpf, adblue egr and plastic pumps bolloxxx that is the fiddle of these times. The AClass is a grand shoppin motor runs on smell of oily rag and is still fixable without the above diesel emissions ,read makers fiddles.
The ml nice drive.not built as well as clk and IS designed to keep my wallet light .

Welcome from a fellow long term E320cdi owner , had it from just under 2 years old and 20k miles . Now on 107k , still love the drive .
I remember an Honest John quote of the E320cdi “it’s all the car you will ever need” :D

Thank you for taking the time to welcome me! Lovely to read all the positive comments and shared enjoyment of such beautiful machines. Looking forward to knowing you all a little better over the course of time, while learning and appreciating my car even more (if possible). Be safe out there, keep smiling and if you hit a traffic jam (post covid) smile more...... You are more comfortable than anyone else in that traffic nightmare!

Yup but in a modern benz we have to turn ,diesel anyway, motor off so we dont wreck our dpf,nox ,egr .ect.unless usin stop start,in which case we are saving for timing chains, gears and starter motors or scannin dash for eml. !!.
Those of us leaving the modern version at home and taking our old arm chair(proper benz ) will run forever and are indeed likely to be having a relaxing experience.

Welcome Yvonne.

Midlife crisis? A while ago after two Mercs I was contemplating a change so brought home a P**sche on demo. The missus came out and said, ‘You’re not having a midlife crisis, more of an end of life crisis. Take it back!”

I’m now on my third Merc
