MoT'd the 'C' today - straight through with no advisories.
Had the centre check the antifreeze concentration too, just for kicks.

55 mins - start to finish. £28.50 @ 'Uncle Toms' MoT centre in Rochford.

This prompts me to enquire:

What does an MoT cost in your part of the country?
How long did it take?

The correct fee is around £50 so they're offering a discount in the hope of making a few quid on the work. Brave of you to take them up on it and full marks for their honesty in passing it regardless.

£50 for mine, though it is a Class VII (IIRC Class IV from the same place is £40)

Very similar prices around my area give or take a few quid.

The usual people with large discounts, hoping to do any work.

If they say that something is a 'fixed price' - then as sure as night follows day, the price is flexible..!!!

I can dig that.

I always give the car a good check over prior to the MoT anyway, so i'm pleased results fell in line with expectations.
I even check the emissions (although obviously not with a calibrated unit).

I'm a happy bunny right now (or should that be fish?) with £25 in my 'bin

I have had 2 MOTs done in the last few weeks. W220, fail note for adjustment on one headlight. Centre adjusted light foc, then issued pass certificate. Cost £50.

R129, advisory on tyre tread depth and pass certificate. Cost £50.

Does the test centre receive a fee from DOT for these supplementary notes? There was no charge to me, and each car passed. Maybe I am just a good customer - but I only use this local garage for MOTs. What would their incentive be to issue documentation of this sort without gain?

The £53.10 fee is set by the government as the maximum that any garage can charge. If they want to do it for free or £25, that's up to them.

More interesting, especially for owners of older cars, is this site where you can view previous MOT's, from 2005 on.
