Viano 2007 3.0 V6 CDI
Hello. I have a left hand drive Viano which I keep in France. It was fitted with a MPH Instrument cluster in Ireland where I bought it and I have now fitted a KPH one. The one that I replaced had 208,000km and the one that I have replaced it with 218,000km (it is from the exact same model and year as mine). When I plugged it in and turned on the ignition it comes up with a series of dashes. How do I correct this please?

I’d suspect it (if possible) will need to be coded to the car..
Thanks for the reply. Can that be done with the normal Garage diagnostic computer or is it a specialist job?

I presume that that is the standard Garage diagnostics, is it? Does the error come up automatically and prompt what to do or do you have to go into a specific function?

Star is rare to find outside Mercedes specialists and Mercedes themselves.
It's a complex tool and requires someone with some idea of how to use it and more importantly interpret the results.

Most garages use tools like SnapOn with multi car capability. These are good to a point but cannot beat Star when it comes to the amount of information they show or the inbuilt guidance available.

Thanks. I'll have to book in with the only nearby specialist then.

I think the mileage is not displayed because the cluster is not paired or interlocked to the other control units that store chassis numbers and mileages.
I also would be surprised if this can easily be recoded.
I think if you are lucky you might be able to get it reset by one of these aces that can repair control units they would probably have to replace the eprom chip.
This is intended to stop people clocking cars.
