Mileometer and tripometer

1990 260E auto. I pushed the button to reset the tripometer to 0000 and that is where it stayed. Also i am not recording any miles on the mileometer but the speedometer is working ok. Any surgestions please boys?

If you pressed the mileometer reset button while the car was moving i'm afraid you may have damaged the internal mechanism as this should only be done when stationary on the cars with cable driven speedos.

Thank you very much C220GJS, for finding that. It really sounds tricky, but i might just try it one day, seems the only option.
