Well John..and with all due respect's to you and your Wife and speaking from personal experience...if I made a similar wish to yours, as in "Same here, wish the wife would get on with the ironing , cleaning , cooking and other **** and leave me alone "
and if my "other half" got wind of it, for sure I would find myself fulfilling my own wish....in spade's!!! Hot tongue and cold shoulder would be the main diet for quite awhile......

Irrespective of whether the guy was jealous or just a tad unhinged he was looking for an argument so a smiley joshing response 'seeming' to agree with him might have deflated & confused him spoiling any chance of starting a row. If you had ****ed him off then at some time you may well find your pride & joy vandalised.
Plan B move to a nicer area.
