I hope (touch wood !!) I have now sorted a couple of major issues with my new (to me) ML270. However, there's a couple of minor things I would ideally like to put right as well.
I always thought I was reasonably OK with wiring diagrams, but even with the full-colour version, I do find the Mercedes diagram less than user-friendly.
1. Fog Lamps. Basically - if I push the top of the switch (for the front lamps) - nothing happens. If I push the bottom - both front and rear come on which is correct. There's only one (green) wire to this switch from the AAM and what looks like a resistor between the two contacts so I'm guessing this resistor has failed. Has anyone ever taken this switch to bits - is that possible and/or can the switch be replaced or is it part of the centre panel assembly ?
2. Parking lamps. According to the handbook - with key in position 0 or no key in ignition - lighting switch in "parking position" and indicator in either left or right position, I should get either left or right parking lamps. I don't !
Can't work out how the circuit works and/or whether there's a separate fuse and/or relay for this function. Any ideas (Malcolm ;)
Many thanks.
David.

Looking like a faulty switch, they can be changed, if the problem is the switch, its all CAN controlled If I get a chance today I will take a look at the diagram.

Do you have a sunroof? If so you might have damp EAM. Star might be the best thing first as you might be searching for problem in the wrong places.

Yes - have a sunroof but I am fairly sure it's watertight. I think the foglight issue MUST be the switch but I'm reluctant to start taking the interior apart if it can't be mended or replaced.
The parking lights problem isn't really a problem - I just like things to work if they are supposed to work !
Having said that - I do look back with some nostalgia to my very first car which had two fuses and one relay - the wiring diagram was on the back page of the Owners Handbook and you could play around with a multimeter without any concern that the interior might implode in a frenzy of plastic and airbag.
Having said that - if you hit a tree at more than 30 mph, you had a guaranteed appointment with the Coroner !
Happy days !
