Before you dismantle the mirror, first try this,

Sit in passenger seat with window open.
Press the mirror glass inwards at the Bottom with your fingers, you will hear several clicks.
Now try the up/down switch adjuster.
Press the mirror glass inwards at the Top with your fingers, you will hear several clicks
Now try the up/down switch adjuster.
Fiddle with this till the mirror is to your liking, the same applies to the in/out position.

Sometimes the mirrors just need some manual adjustment.Worth a try.

There is a video here, it shows how to remove the mirror cover. With the cover off you will see better what is going on, you could try again, my previous suggestion, this may give some clue as to what is at fault, perhaps the wire that controls the up/down of the mirror tilting are loose/poorly connected, a bit of wiggling of the wires may give some clue.
You will see two wires that plug into the corner of the mirror, these are for the mirror heating element, all the remaining wires control the up/down and in/out movements.

Also take off the driver side mirror cover, this might be useful to compare with the faulty passenger side and let you see how the good side funtions, perhaps for example, the passenger side mirror isn’t clipped on to the adjuster motor properly.

There is also the possibility that the fault is at the mirror adjuster switch and not at the mirror, you can see the switch and its wiring in the bottom left picture here.

You scared the carp out of me there Raffles, don’t be putting words like cracked and mirror so close together, for a second there I thought you broke the mirror! Well done and thanks for the feedback.
