Missing backlight on headlight switch in W202

While driving back from London this evening in pitch darkness, I couldn't find the headlight switch. Is this one of Merc forgotten thought? The light only comes on if you switch on the rear fog light. This is also missing in my 2001 slk..............or is there a bulb behind the switch I missed?

Cos people usually leave it on Auto....

Don't think there is an auto option on the W202. At least, there isn't on mine!!

Nor was there on mine, but easy to find the switch in the dark when you're familiar with it.
