I just bought a 2007 SLK280. I went to check the cabin air filter. Looks like I am missing the plastic lid. I see a plastic cover over the battery with a rubber gasket on the top. The cabin air is supposed to go past the battery? That seems like you would get battery fumes into the interior if the battery acts up. I need to find a USA parts place to buy a new lid. Maybe eBay.

If its like the R172, the battery has a shallow tray over it with a drain hole in one corner. The gasket seals against the underside of the bonnet/hood. The tray collects the rainwater from the grilles in the bonnet/hood and drains it via a tube attached to the drainhole. The cabin filter is changed from inside the car via the footwell...

That’s not the cabin filter - that is just a water catcher and drain from the bonnet vents.

The cabin air filter is up under the glove box (on cars with steering wheels in the right side…);)
