missing crank sensor

Hi, i had a problem with a merc e220 1994 not starting today . Called the RAC who suspected a failing crank sensor.problem was ,he couldnt find it,or the plug for diagnostics.Can anyone point me in the right direction with these two items please.....many thanks....Colin

Don't know about your car's engine for certain but on mine 2.6 190E there is a crank sensor in the "bell housing" at rear of engine. Also a TDC (top dead centre sensor) on the front of the engine about half way down near coolant pump area . Get a Haynes manual for your car and it'll tell you. You can clean the crank sensor simply enough I think, but setting the TDC sensor is an MB specialist job.
