Hi there!

On my MY2001 W220 there is supposed to be a knob on the left hand side of the instrument cluster, I believe it's to adjust backlight?

Either way, mine is missing:

If I want one, what do you guys recommend, finding a knackered cluster in a scrapyard and pulling the knob out of it? Or does anyone know if I can just buy a new knob from MB? Or do I have to replace the whole cluster or something crazy?

Instrument Cluster illumination knob. That's the one. I missed the opening hours of the parts desk so I will ask next week if I get a chance to go.

Looking in detail at mine it looks like some plastic has been snapped, so I'm guessing, huey, that you are right, that the cluster would have to come off to replace it.

The cluster is easy to remove on the w220, you will see 2 little slots about 1-2mm in height and about 1cm in width. You just insert to radio removal keys and the cluster pulls out. Though i think some folks recommend the removal of the wood trim first.

I went to my local MB spares desk and found the part with the help of the fellow there. There's a kind of instrument cluster surround which, according to the diagram, has the brightness knob on the left and the reset button on the right. It was £89 new. I'm hopeful I can maybe find a broken instrument cluster that no-one wants and buy it to get that one piece.

Any luck or recommendation on this? I ran into the same problem and cannot find anything online.

Thanks in advance

The thread is 9 year old and the OP has not been seen since then.
Reading the thread options seem used cluster (breaker etc) or getting new face plate from dealer.

let us know how you get on!
