Hi all I have changed the air filter no problem old one was very dirty new one was a £10.00 inc vat
But there is a dial on the cover of the air filter box about 2 inch diameter with increments of 100%, 75% and a knob to rotate a red slide that reveilles the said % when the slider is rotated fully anti clock wise it locks in that position it was set at about 85%
Not now though because a knob as got it stuck fully antilock wise "what have I done".

Hi

I thought this was an indicator of how much life was left in the filter ie, how blocked up it was, it should be reset after changing filter????? Is this the way it should be???

Thanks for the reply 230k.
So if your correct it was 85% blocked and now I’ve messed it’s set to 0% blocked but the thing has locked up with no red showing on the dial will this rectify its self.

Hi

Not an expert but i would say that it would need set to 0% ie no red showing when you have the new filter fitted, after a while some red will show as the filter starts to get blocked up.

Just checked the owners manual for my 2.7ltr cdi sprinter van and the exact words are -

"The display on the air cleaner housing in the engine compartment indicates the degree of contamination of the air cleaner. When the red zone has reached the 100% mark, have the filter element replaced at a Mercedes-Benz service centre"

I think I have only had to reset this indicator once as I must be changing the air filters prematurely (every other service so approx every 40-45k) and I assume that if you reset the indicator without changing the element then the next time you ran the engine at full power(i.e peak air flow) the indicator would return to its previous contamination figure.

Thanks for the replies, from what you say I've fluked the reset the filter was very dirty was about 80% on the dial there seem to be more torque than before, I’ll be checking the filter at about 50% next time maybe leaner mixture more mpg.
