just done the engine oil change no problem but I removed the plastic under body shield to have a look at the auto box, I read the thread about auto fluid change I found the electric plug front right with tin cover over it also the tube middle right going up to back of engine also the thread talks about removing the wheel arch trim, exhaust, turbo bolts etc. But it looks like there is plenty of room to drop the sump maybe I understood this wrong and does the dipstick fit in the hole where the tube goes can the job be done with out removing the wheel arch trim, exhaust, turbo bolts etc

If it all looks clear to drop the auto sump, thats fine, if you are unsure, give me the first 6 VIN numbers and I can check for you.

Hi all have just completed the auto box oil change it was a piece of cake my motor has done 150,000 miles. Undid the sump plug with a 14mm six sided socket no problem there looks like the thread had a pitch of about 1mm so it came undone easily then I drained 2.5 Lts of oil with a bit on the floor, next undid the 6 x 6mm torque bit cap head screws which clamp the pan on, the ones with the star socket which I undid with a short 3/8 drive swivel headed ratchet, one was tighter than the others then dropped the sump which was heavier than I thought because the drain plug is flush with the bottom of the sump so there is still about ½ lt still in so if your trying to measure all the oil be careful you don’t spill any
The oil was a dark brown colour like soy sauce but a bit thicker smelt like the insides of an electric motor there was no sludge and very little abrasions on the magnet which is a flat one about 50mm x 30mm x 3mm there was whitish coating in the bottom of the sump like a thin coat of paint which cleaned out easily also slight witness of rust in one corner, next I took the filter off which looked fairly clean compared to the new one, it’s a good quality one cheep at £7.47 + vat.
I put the whole thing back together copper slipped the bolt for next time it took a bout 2.5 hrs but it can be done a lot quicker I recon there was about 3.25 Lts of oil in the box so I refilled with 3.5 Lts just of to MB now to get the dip stick which they didn’t have in stock
All in all the condition of the oil, sump and filter were very good considering that my motor has done 150k which suggests that some one had beaten me to it but I suppose that is a good thing.

Measured the oil at working temp it was bang on top line 80C engine not running is this correct our should engine be running.

Next job is Glow Plugs light stopping on intermittently
