Hi, hopefully somebody can help me.

My car was making a strange noise when I moved the steering wheel, a friend suggested the steering fluid, so we topped this up and the noise went. However Ihave noticed that I have a small leak still !! Took my car to my local man and he said the hose needed tightening which he did, problem is there is still a small leak, nothing major but it annoys me that it leaks. Any suggestions so I can take back to my mechanic. The leak is on the passenger side just at the front.

Thanks

Tracy

ML 270 CDi - Steering Fluid Leak

Hi PSmart,

Thanks for advice, should I suggest to my mechanic to replace the steering hose ?
Do you have anyidea of cost for this part and how much I should pay, I have a service due in March do you think I should have it done then to reduce costs, the leak is very small just annoying and my drive has fluid on it which really bugs me !! I assume that when a service is carried out he will check steering fluid level and so to replace part would be easier.

Thanks for your advise.

Change it soon, the pipe is quite cheap compared to the price of a new pump. And when a pump starts making a noise it means damage. So dont wait for further damage.;)

A man in the know. Cant advise myself because I havent had to do it, but Eric is right, you may get away with it by regular top-ups, but the downside is a more costly repair.
