Hello all, I hope someone out there can help me with this.
I bought my ML last summer and was very pleased with it (still am!) but as the cold mornings arrived I found that the climate control system would not respond to the controls to blow air onto the windscreen, either by pressing the demist botton or by manually setting the distribution controls to do so.
In each case the system blows air furiously from the side window demisting vents but not from the ones beneath the windscreen. The funny thing is though, that if you set the controls to auto, after around 10 - 15 mins it will quite happily start to blow air through the windscreen vents, suggesting that all the flaps and motors are functional, but just won't follow the logic of the controls. I know that there is a reset facility for the climate control on other mercs, but this seems to involve simultaneous pressing of demist & recirc buttons, which, on the ML are on opposite sides of the same rocker switch so you cant press both at the same time! Does anyone know of a reset proceedure for the ML or any other help?
Sorry for the lengthy post!

Hello and welcome,:D I feel that your car may be normal, though I have an SL it behaves in the same way. The demist button is only for the rear window and not the front.

Wait till a ML owner comes on air

Thanks for your reply. Don't think it's normal though, as the handbook specifically says that the demist button provides ' maximum blower & heat output to windscreen & side windows' and even if you override this and manually set max airflow to the windscreen there is still nothing. As you say, hopefully another ML owner will have experienced something similar.

This fault can be rectified on STAR where the blending flap (center) can be set up correctly.

The defrost vent motor / flap could also be faulty, I do have a "how to fix for this"

From memory Mark the flap loses count of where it is and putting the car on STAR MB diagnosis it can be re set

Blower problem

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Is this a main dealer thing? Is it expensive?

I have mechanic quoting me for vent motor replacement sounds like he is barking up the wrong tree?

Without putting it onto STAR no one will know.

Good indies have STAR diagnostic gear, and much cheaper than using MB

Hi Romanno,

Did you ever resolve this problem, I have a 53 plate ML 270 CDI which has just developed the same fault. If you did resolve it how did you do it?

Mnay thanks
