ML 270 Folding mirrors

Hi,

I have a ML270 2002 and I think someone has hit into the passenger mirror and when ever I press the button to fold the mirrors the passenger side folding mirror makes a horrible clicking sound two/three times when the folding is complete. I have noticed that it folds in more than the drivers side.

Is it easy to adjust the folding folder so that it does not fold in as much and make the horrible clicking sound when folding?

Regards.

Spray some PTFE or silicon into the moving swivel joint and it should the lock into the correct position, once sprayed push the mirror in and out a few times

Hi,

Thanks, it wouldn't damage it if I push it open and close a few times with my hands?

No its ok to do that just like when someone knocks it,,once you have sprayed it it should fall back into line with ease

Hi,

I sparyed WD40 and opened and closed the mirrors manually, but when I press the folding button it still makes the horrible clicking sound on closing the passenger side. Is there anything else I can do to fix it?

Regards,

The clicking is where it has not engaged the locking part, something must be stuck,,slide the cover off and have a look

Go to "edit" on your last post and remove address.

It just sounds as though the casing still has not engaged to the base

The ML Mirror frames are very weak and get distorted on impact. Hence why you are getting the clicking when folding.

All you need to do is buy another frame and put it on. I have done it myself a few times, very easy.

I don't have a frame to offer you as I only have a drivers side one brand new.

Hi,

If I stop the mirror from folding any more than it should fold then the mirror stops and there is no clicking sound.

IF you stop the mirror from folding in to a certain point then it will stop clicking.

A new frame from the dealers can be about £250 from the dealer but from ebay you can get one from about £100 or so.

I only have a driver frame new so I can't help you.

Keep a look out on Ebay.

Which part is the frame? is it the bit with the indicator light or is it an internal part?
