ML 270 Gearbox wont change gear

HI does anyone no whats wrong with my gearbox it goes in drive and reverse but but wont change gear when in drive if i move the stick to the side to change gear nothing happens any ideas on whats wrong would be welcome thanks in advance.:-(

We have a member called Black C55 who will give you an answer, but I believe that there was a speed sensor in the box that fails, the is a post running yesterday on the same thing

Get someone to check your gearbox ecu that it isnt swimming in oil.. these autoboxes are renowned for leaking oil past the wiring loom seals, the oil then seeps along the cables into the ecu and as it becomes saturated the signals it sends out can get distorted or non existant I dont know where the gearbox ecu is on ur Ml so ask some of the experts i poste d a thread on here about my problem S320CDI gearbox limp home mode check it out Oh and the ecu can be cleaned and dried out and a new seal + housing fitted to the gearbox loom the car will then need reprogrammed on an Mb Star machine/computer and gears will be back again OK

My gearbox does exactly the same thing it usually happens if you accelerate quickly and it kicks down to first it will lock into first gear and will not go into any other forward gear even using the tiptronic, but you can select reverse. Turn of the engine and restart and it clears the fault. MB service centre had not answer, they reset the software no different after. Mine also overrevs on changing from 3rd to 4th after it gets warmed up and if you travel through a chicane quickly. MB said I should have the electronic gearbox controller replaced does anyone know if this could be the answer.

Many cars around 1998-2000 had a poor connector on the Gearbox ECU where the contacts oxidized, cleaning the contact could solve it, and has on a few cars here
