I purchased a good 2001 model for the wife but i was continully getting a couple of drops of oil on the drive each day (potential oil slick). The vehicle was returned back to the seller who in turn sent to his local MB dealers for repair. The first time the turbo was removed and new seals put on it.The second time the main air pipe was replaced as they felt it had hardened up a little(i saw the bills for these repairs)However still two drops per day.So i decided to take the air pipe off and have a look for myself as that was were it appeared to be coming from.To my suprise i found that the jubilee clip MB fit is a little on the weak side having a tendency to slip on the threads even though appearing to be tight. So a new stronger clip and some rubber sealant on the lower half of the pipe and the job is a good one,the two drops have vanished.Thank God.

I have had a similar experience with mercedes. The exhaust on my van was audibly blowing and could be clearly heard when driving close to other vehicles or buildings. After half a dozen attempts to fix it including fitting a new exhaust I tried a different dealer and they fixed it in one attempt. The answer was to use exhaust paste on the single joint and voila! They said it wasn't merc policy to use paste???????

As Blobcat, or any engine degreaser.

Dont forget that the drive must be dry at the time of using, otherwise it is not so effective, just spray it on the patches, use a brush to scubb it around and hose off

Just to update this thread.I got the ML up on the ramp yesterday and removed the lower cover and degreased the engine. The leak is coming from under the inlet manifold and gathers in the core plug just underneath until it overflows down the side of the engine. There is no oil above the maniflold only below. Its not serious but shouldnt be there.Anyone out there come across this before or something similar.

This is an old thread but ive only just got to the bottom of the problem so it might help others. The inlet manifold oil seals were replaced but the leak continued.Ive since managed to aquire a good mate who just happens to deal in Mercs and BMWs (repairs) so after a bit of spade work he imforms me the the top of the manifold were the left hand flap pivots is were the oil is coming from and only a new manifold (£624) will sort it out.Apparently Mercedes sell 30 of these a week.So in return for a favour he has fitted the new manifold and the leak has finally gone and the vehicle is more responsive as the same flap had ceased to work.
