Cumbria - obviously LOL
Hi

I have recently bought a ML 270 CDI - amazing car - but am having problems.

Just after I bought it (second hand) it started losing power, wouldnt shift down under hard acceleration and wouldnt go past 2000 revs.

Took it to the local Merc garage where they diagnosed both cats had gone down and the Air Flow Meter.

Contacted the garage where I bought it and they took it back. They just changed one cat as they said the other didnt need doing and changed the air filter as they said that was giving false readings to the AFM. Took it home - brilliant power etc

And then it all started again. But if I pulled over and turned off the ignition and restarted it, the problem disappeared. So rang garage again and he said he would pay for new AFM

So had that fitted yesterday. Drove home - brilliant (again)

But this morning the old problem has returned !!!!! Turn the iginition off and it disappears! Arghhhhh!

So my question is:

(a) any suggestions on the possible cause of this problem? or do I take it back to the Merc garage for further analysis?

(b) Can anyone recommend a good independant Merc specialist in the South of Cumbria - or nearby?

Thanks

There can be many reasons for your ML going into 'limp' mode...........a faulty maf can cause it but you've had a new one fitted so we can rule that out.............
Best now to stick with the garage you bought the car from and let them sort it..(presumably there is a warranty?) as it could get quite expensive for you if you go it alone.

Unless a cheapy has been fitted, this does sound a maf problem still

Possible causes:

EGR

Inlet port shut off

Vacuum transducer(s)

Turbo (unlikely)
