Is it me or:-

a) Are they a bit sticky, which is deeply irritating?

and

b) A known fault that am sure I have seen / read about (I did a search before posting).

Mr Memory.

Mine was 'sticky' / 'notchy' and when i mentioned this to MB they said they were all like this!..i pressed the pedal on a brand new ML in the showroom and it too was also 'notchy'.....

There are two return springs fitted, one is at the pedal end and the other is at the potentiometer end which is located under the bonnet and near to the bulhead) I removed the potentiometer return spring (dont worry, the poten' also has its own return spring built in) and this has transformed the 'feel' of the pedal...no more notchiness!

Just try it, it only takes a minute to remove.

I'll give mine a whirl as well, now that the Turbo's sorted. How many miles have you run without the spring?

Covered about 25/30k miles so far since the 'mod'........ not even a hint of the notchiness since.

Off topic (sorry)...Check out the running boards.......I got them recently for £102 brand new off ebay!...they retail at £830 from MB....I think i got them cheap 'cos the guy advertised them as 'sills'

Just a little joke Maldon, years ago my Skoda throttle broke and I was down on the pennies, so I wired my Choke into the Throttle and for a few months, drove by push/pulling the choke!!!

Looks strange to me, for no other reason than I'm used to seeing bull bars there. I think the ML looks bare in this region, so the boards finish off your ML nicely.

Ebay Germany has done me good, got 4 brand new Tegmen alloy rims for less than 2 at MB, a brand new turbo for less than a re-conditioned unit, some good bargains are to be obtained. I asked myself why I wanted to change my car, and the only 2 answers I could think of for changing my ML is the V8 and the nice steering wheel toys you Facelift ML owners enjoy. This ML is brilliant IMHO to me. So I've been enthusiastically looking for a V8 diesel engine, complete, on Ebay... be a hellova project though, swapping a 270 for a 400! Seen 270's for sale, but no 400 yet!

For me... not until Sunday! I have 5 hours to do the trannie, put exhaust system back, put trim back, change spring before I turn into a pumpkin and must be back over here!! Will post some pics to compliment your fix, give less mechanically minded members a chance to see what we are talking about. Thanks again Panason1c.

Maldon,

...my appologies, never got a chance to get some pics (memory not as good as it once was!!), but I managed the 10 second job of removing the spring this weekend, and Panason1c is absolutely right. The only snag with doing this is to retrain your right foot, you only need the softest of touches now to accelerate!

My car still jerks a tiny amount with the A/C on, but no jerking with A/C off. I noticed this on my Grand Cherokee, its just 4x4 take up, which seems to be affected by A/C power sapping.

Worth the 10 seconds of your time, and if I can remember, will get a pic posted.
